- Coverage 1963Republic of Mauritius. The CPI measures prices of goods and services acquired by private households; the July 2024 methodology gives its scope as all private households of the Republic, and prices of non-perishable items are collected monthly in the nine districts of the island of Mauritius and in Rodrigues. These files restate the scope only for the current basket; the earlier bases are the same national series and are loaded at the same scope, which is an inference. Never compared with, or divided by, a figure for the island alone.
- Coverage 1987July 1987: the first base Table 1 prints, July 1986 - June 1987 = 100, with nine groups; the index before it is not in this workbook. Statistics Mauritius publishes the rate continuously across the change; a rate whose twelve-month averages straddle it compares averages taken on two bases. MorisLens checks published rates against the index only within one base and computes none across a rebasing.
- Discrepancy 1989The published 1989 rate, 12.6, is not reproduced from Table 1's all-items index on base July 1986 - June 1987, which gives 12.673 whether the index is taken as held or rounded to one decimal. Kept as published.
- Coverage 1992July 1992: new base July 1991 - June 1992 = 100, with a new basket and weights. Statistics Mauritius publishes the rate continuously across the change; a rate whose twelve-month averages straddle it compares averages taken on two bases. MorisLens checks published rates against the index only within one base and computes none across a rebasing.
- Coverage 1997July 1997: new base July 1996 - June 1997 = 100, with a new basket and weights. Statistics Mauritius publishes the rate continuously across the change; a rate whose twelve-month averages straddle it compares averages taken on two bases. MorisLens checks published rates against the index only within one base and computes none across a rebasing.
- Coverage 2002July 2002: new base July 2001 - June 2002 = 100, with a new basket and weights, and 12 COICOP 1999 divisions in place of the nine groups. Statistics Mauritius publishes the rate continuously across the change; a rate whose twelve-month averages straddle it compares averages taken on two bases. MorisLens checks published rates against the index only within one base and computes none across a rebasing.
- Coverage 2007July 2007: new base July 2006 - June 2007 = 100, with a new basket and weights. Statistics Mauritius publishes the rate continuously across the change; a rate whose twelve-month averages straddle it compares averages taken on two bases. MorisLens checks published rates against the index only within one base and computes none across a rebasing.
- Coverage 2013April 2013: new base Year 2012 = 100, with a new basket and weights. Statistics Mauritius publishes the rate continuously across the change; a rate whose twelve-month averages straddle it compares averages taken on two bases. - Discrepancy 2023The published March 2023 rate, 11.1, is not reproduced from Table 1's all-items index on base 2017: 11.155 from the index as held, 11.154 from the index rounded to one decimal. Kept as published.
- Discrepancy 2023The published May 2023 rate, 10.6, is not reproduced from Table 1's all-items index on base 2017: 10.650 from the index as held, 10.657 from the index rounded to one decimal, both of which a spreadsheet rounds to 10.7. Kept as published.
- Coverage 2024April 2024: new base Year 2023 = 100, with a basket derived from the 2023 Household Budget Survey and 13 COICOP 2018 divisions in place of 12 COICOP 1999 divisions. - Discrepancy 2024The April 2024 headline rate is published as 5.2; computed from the publisher's own linked Table 10 it would be 5.395. Rates straddling a rebasing are the publisher's and cannot be reproduced from any series in the workbook.
Notes on this data (1)
- Revision 1974Published rates are the official figures, compiled from the index values and conventions in force when each was published. Statistics Mauritius explained on 25 September 2026 that after a rebasing the earlier indices are linked to the new base with linking factors, and that rates already published are not revised; a rate recomputed from the linked historical index can therefore differ slightly at the decimal from the published one, as in the months noted as discrepancies. MorisLens serves the published rates and does not recompute them.
