What drove the year-on-year change
Each division’s contribution to the change of the all-items index on the same month a year earlier, in percentage points, from the published weights. Computed on the bases whose divisions add up exactly: 2012, 2017 and 2023.

- Each bar is a division's contribution to the year-on-year change of the all-items index, from the published weights and indices of this base; together they make up that change. The publisher's printed year-on-year rate for September 2026 is 5.7% (Consumer Price Index - Historical series, Table 4a): it is shown as published and may differ in its last digit, because the publisher computes it from indices rounded to one decimal.
- Coverage 1963Republic of Mauritius. The CPI measures prices of goods and services acquired by private households; the July 2024 methodology gives its scope as all private households of the Republic, and prices of non-perishable items are collected monthly in the nine districts of the island of Mauritius and in Rodrigues. These files restate the scope only for the current basket; the earlier bases are the same national series and are loaded at the same scope, which is an inference. Never compared with, or divided by, a figure for the island alone.
- Discrepancy 2024On base 2023 the printed indices are not the weighted means of the printed indices below them with the printed weights: 506 of 2,730 class values, 177 of 1,320 group values and 43 of 390 division values (Table 1's divisions against Table 2a's groups; 13 of them in September 2026) differ by more than 0.001, by up to 2.5 index points (class 13.9.0, 'Other services': 110.0 printed, 112.5 from its two items). On bases 2012 and 2017 the same identity holds to 1e-13, and on base 2023 Table 1's divisions give its all-items index exactly in every month but September 2026 (see that month's note). Contributions of groups, classes or items to a change cannot be computed from the printed weights on this base; contributions of divisions can.
- Discrepancy 2026September 2026: Table 1's all-items index on base 2023, 114.1, is not the weighted mean of its 13 divisions with the printed weights, 114.086. September is the only month of Table 1's base 2023 block stored at one decimal (Food and non-alcoholic beverages 114.9); every earlier month on this base is stored unrounded, and its divisions give its all-items index exactly. Table 2a prints September's divisions unrounded (Food and non-alcoholic beverages 114.886) and Table 10 its all-items index, 114.0897, so all 13 of Table 1's divisions differ from Table 2a's groups by more than 0.001 that month. The year-on-year change is 5.74% from Table 1's all-items index and 5.73% from its divisions; Table 4a prints 5.7. The figures are loaded as printed; none is corrected.
How these figures are calculated
Contribution to the year-on-year change of the all-items CPI
weight ÷ total weight × (current − previous) ÷ total previous × 100Unit: percentage points.
Worked example, September 2026 · Personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services: weight = 32, total weight = 1,000, current = 113.3, previous = 108.845876, total previous = 107.902046, giving 0.13.
